Film Noir

I love everything about FILM NOIR and the way a film noir movie makes me feel! I also love the way the femme fatale in all the film noir movies look... they are so magical looking and striking to the eye! even the way the black and white film projects it self. I often base some of my paintings off of film noir and art deco and late 1930's movies! So take a look at why I love film noir and some of my favorite film noir movies!

ART by JAR 24x36 ( The Flapper )

The term Film Noir is French for "black film"
and it's known for it's low key black &white visual style.
Film Noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas
they are usually based from 1940-1950 but I believe it started earlier then that based on this next film.....

Pepe Le Moko 1937
Directed by Julien Duvivier
Pepe Le Moko is an example of the 1930 French movement known as POETIC REALISM.
This film is often seen as an early precursor of FILM NOIR.

Another one of my favorite Directors is Francois Truffaut
and these two next films are really amazing.
SHOOT THE PIANO PLAYER 1962

and JULES and JIM 1962

THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI 1920
Directed by Robert Wiene

I believe this one is the first great one to be categorized as a film noir movie!

Then there was ALFRED HITCHCOCK who is another of my favorite directors
these next two films he directed are truly one of a kind!
THE LADY VANISHES 1938

and Alfred Hitchcock directed
REBECCA 1940

DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK 1952
Directed by Roy Ward Baker
I adore how good Marilyn Monroe is in this thriller .. my fave by far!!!

SUNSET BLVD 1950
Directed by Billy Wilder

My favorite cult classic
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE 1962
Directed by Robert Aldrich

MILDRED PIERCE 1945
Directed by Michael Curtiz

A clip from Jules and Jim
it just screams seduction :)
The next two films are from the later years the 1970's era of Film Noir and they happen to be the best fashion forward films of all time :)

THE EYES OF LAURA MARS 1978
Directed by Irvin Kershner

Here are a few looks of how to look like a femme fatale
